I love classical music and have a deep passion for music written in the 16th centuries, and pastoral music, therefore, for today I give you one from each Gregorio Allegri (b 1585) and the second is a Vaughan Williams (b 1872) take on a theme of Thomas Tallis (b 1505). The second piece I saw being performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the beautiful Liverpool Cathedral. It was an incredible performance, especially as there were two orchestras, one at the front of the Cathedral, and a smaller second orchestral team were situated on a walkway “in the Gods” above the rear the seating, needless to say, this was an incredible experience as the acoustics there are phenomenal. I have been very lucky to be in attendance there for other performances and rehearsals, one of which will live with me till I die was John Tavener’s Song for Athene. One final piece that I truly love is quite heartbreaking, is Henryk Gorecki’s Symphony No. 3 “Sorrowful Songs”, which is the first piece of music I would like to share.
