Apple Wins…

After lots of thought and having the three watches in my basket for a few weeks now, I finally went for the Apple Watch 4. I was tempted to go for the Ionos, but the ECG feature was the pulling point. I got it this morning and so far so good. I have tried the ECG and it is very good, showing my heart working well. When my heart next plays up I can record it for my GP which will help with controlling my condition.

One of the features I did not know was there until it alerted me was a breathing app. My watch vibrated, I looked and it told me to take a minute to sit and breath and instructed me when to breath in and when out, this is supposed to help relax and clear your lungs of stale air. I am looking forward to using the other apps and features on it, and am happy to say I love it.

Which Watch?

So, I need a bit of advice/help/suggestions etc.

My Fitbit Blaze has a battery problem, and it only lasts 24 hours if I am lucky, and 4 hours if I am not. I don’t mind charging it, that’s not the problem, it’s the 4 hours stint which happens quite a bit. I bought it in September 2016, so it is close to 3 years old. It is my third Fitbit. My last two were returned within the first year of having them due to moulded strap problems.

I am thinking of three watches so far, Apple Watch Series 4, Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa. I like the idea of GPS built into the watch rather than piggybacking off my iPhone. I like that they all work with messaging etc., all three can carry music and connect to Bluetooth headphones which is a bonus.

The Apple Watch has a medical standard ECG reader which is good as I have a dodgy heart, so that’s positive health-wise. All three do heartbeat monitoring, exercise routines, movement reminder etc. The prices, however, are quite different. The Apple Watch is £429, the Ionic is £249 and the Versa is £199.

So, what are the thoughts of my readers? Do you have either of these watches? Do you love or hate them? Let me know, I need to get a new one soonish.

Cheers.

High Speed

Speed Test

Today our new high-speed router arrived. Knowing how many items I have attached to our old router I was rolling my eyes at the thought of having to add all 27 devices, however, I had read an article last night regarding routers, and that changing the SSID and the password on the new router to the old details it will auto connect to all the existing devices. With this new knowledge, I plugged it in, logged in, changed what was required, and hey presto, we were working. I then decided to run a speed test, and what do you know, we have the high-speed connection already, even though it was not to be live for 10 days (next Wednesday), the words WOO HOO! came to mind.

I have been testing it all day, not the speed test as featured above, but uploading photos to Pixabay, and syncing my Apple drive, and the ISP said that the speed will increase for the first week or so till it reaches 80Mbps. Streaming is now a doddle and downloading films from Sky takes seconds now.

New iMac?

I keep looking at getting a new iMac. I a 24-inch Early 2009 iMac, it has done me well, and never let me down, but it is getting slow in its old age, and I can only use El Capitan, as my iMac cannot update to Sierra due to the requirements of the new OS. If I am honest, I am still happy with my current iMac, it does the job, just its 8 years old, and I am yearning for a new swanky machine. Last year I bought myself a new MacBook Pro along with a new iPhone 6S Plus, which in all truths cost a bloody fortune as I decided to go for the upper end of the specifications rather than an entry level machine.

Looking at the new iMac’s (2017) editions they are spec rich, and I would probably have the new one for 8 to 10 years, but the expense really does kill me, not in the fact of affording it, that’s not the problem, it is justifying the expense. As I say, my 2009 iMac is great, in fact, I am using it at the moment to write this whilst streaming Corey Taylors latest Beats 1 show (A series of bleeps) on Apple Music. M keeps taunting me with “So when are you going to stop pretending you have not already decided?”. But in all honesty, I have not decided to buy one, I would love one, and maybe last year, I may have gone mad if they new iMac was out and bought it then, but it wasn’t and I really struggled with the purchase of the iPhone at the same time, so maybe I may not have. All in all, I want one but the justification really is stopping me. I think then should I go for a Mini iMac, which is cool, but then I have to get a monitor for it, which is not a problem as I have seen some very sexy ones, but in the end, I wonder if I am sacrificing quality for the cost.

Question: Do I stick with old faithful?
