Real Satisfaction

This week on The Daily Post our photo challenge was “Satisfaction”, and I think after this little ant has had his fill of the jam I put on the bin for him, he will definitely feel satisfaction. He and his buddies were roaming about across the garden waste bin, obviously looking for something to eat, or to take back to the nest, so back to the kitchen for a blob of jam, and then to my office for my camera to see if I could get a good shot. Since these little creatures move at a hasty speed I took many photos, so good some blurred, but this one for me said satisfaction.

High Speed

Today our new high-speed router arrived. Knowing how many items I have attached to our old router I was rolling my eyes at the thought of having to add all 27 devices, however, I had read an article last night regarding routers, and that changing the SSID and the password on the new router to the old details it will auto connect to all the existing devices. With this new knowledge, I plugged it in, logged in, changed what was required, and hey presto, we were working. I then decided to run a speed test, and what do you know, we have the high-speed connection already, even though it was not to be live for 10 days (next Wednesday), the words WOO HOO! came to mind.

I have been testing it all day, not the speed test as featured above, but uploading photos to Pixabay, and syncing my Apple drive, and the ISP said that the speed will increase for the first week or so till it reaches 80Mbps. Streaming is now a doddle and downloading films from Sky takes seconds now.

Reminders of the past

Growing up in the country there were many smells/fragrances about, from livestock to equine to rapeseed, but there are other smells that also take me back in time. The smell of an outboard motor reminds me of a holiday when I was about 10 in my uncle’s speedboat, fishing in the North Atlantic. Lavender, scones, evaporated milk, streaky bacon all remind me of being in my maternal Nans kitchen, apricot brandy and advocate of her at Christmas.

There are fragrances that I just cannot describe, but on the odd occasion, I smell them and whoosh, I am in the 70’s at my paternal Nans home, part of the fragrance is wax and a metallic element, but I have never been able to discover what.

Gunpowder has memories of clay pigeon shooting.

There are many fragrances that take me back, some with fondness others I lament, but all, memories of my past.

Sweater Thoughts

I love gothic/Victorian clothing, I always have, and luckily enough, they seem to suit me. However, there is one sweater that I would love to make myself, and it is this one modelled by Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler in Penny Dreadful season two.

I love the simplicity of it, the colour and the detail of the shoulder closing. It is simple and yet divine.

If anyone knows of a knitting pattern that matches this, or the original pattern that this is made from, please let me know.

Fibre Broadband

We upgraded our broadband about a year ago from 12mbps to 40mbpb fibre. After adding so much onto our system lately in the form of Amazon Dots, Hue lighting, Echos, Ring and much much more I thought it was time to increase the speed of the system as there was an offer with our ISP, double our speed for an extra £5 a month, so it seemed silly not to go for it, after all, we stream music, movies and tv shows all the time, so why not a little faster.

I also thought that this may also help with the speed of my old iMac, which as you know, I want to upgrade. A new hub has been ordered, so will be with me in the next few days, and the service will be live 2nd August. Only 10 days, but I will be chomping at the bit till it starts. I am quite impatient when it comes to getting things, I guess that is why we have an Amazon Prime account. Fingers crossed all our systems will speed up, especially when we have 26 wireless items attached. Is 26 a little too much?
